Helicopters in Pilot Training Flight Simulator use the same flight kit foundation as planes, but the control goal is different: manage vertical lift, keep small attitude changes, and avoid carrying too much sideways speed into a landing. Start the engine, raise throttle gradually, and use gentle movement input. On keyboard, community documentation reports A and D as helicopter tilt controls; controller and mobile pilots should follow the live helicopter Controls panel.
Choose a helicopter and practice area
The current community aircraft index documents five main helicopter models: Bell 412, Chinook, UH-60 Black Hawk, Airbus H135, and Sikorsky S-92. Some variants or equipment require gamepasses, and availability can differ by spawner. Choose a model you can spawn and stay at an open airport or heliport for the first session.
Do not begin between terminal buildings or on a crowded carrier deck. An open apron gives room to discover how quickly the helicopter rises and tilts. Zoom out enough to see the skids or landing gear relative to the ground.
Lift into a controlled hover
Start the engine using the device prompt, then raise throttle in small steps. Watch the helicopter rather than holding maximum power. As it becomes light on the ground, center the movement control and correct drift with brief inputs. The first goal is not height; it is remaining over one patch of apron.
Make one correction at a time. If the helicopter slides forward, apply a small opposite input and then recenter. Holding a large reverse command usually creates a pendulum effect. On keyboard, use short taps instead of dragging the mouse to an extreme position.
Once the hover is stable, climb a little, pause, and descend back to the same area. This teaches throttle response without adding forward flight.
Transition to forward flight
Tilt forward gently and let speed build. As the helicopter accelerates, reduce the forward input rather than keeping it pinned. Use shallow turns and keep the horizon visible. A helicopter can change direction in less space than an airliner, but aggressive roll near the ground still removes your recovery margin.
Advanced mode can make the full range of movement available. That is useful after basic hovering is comfortable, but it can amplify small mistakes. If the aircraft feels uncontrollable, reduce input size and return to an open, level area.
Use altitude hold only after understanding how to disengage it. Community documentation describes the feature as holding a constant altitude while restricting directional changes; it is not a complete route-following autopilot.
Approach and land
Begin slowing before reaching the pad. Reduce forward tilt, add a small opposite correction if needed, and avoid dropping power suddenly. Aim to arrive above the landing area with little horizontal movement. Descend in small steps while keeping the touchdown point centered beneath you.
If the helicopter starts sliding across the pad, stop the descent and recover the hover. Landing while carrying sideways motion can tip the aircraft or move it into an obstacle. Touch down level, lower power, and wait until the helicopter is settled before exiting.
For a rooftop, carrier, or confined landing, make an inspection pass first. Identify cranes, masts, buildings, and other players. Approach into the clearest side and be willing to leave if the deck becomes crowded.
Special helicopter equipment
Community controls document Y and H for lowering and raising the MH-60 winch, with on-screen equivalents on supported devices. A spotlight may use L or a labeled button. Those commands are aircraft- and variant-specific. If the button is absent, do not assume the feature is broken; confirm that your selected helicopter actually includes the equipment.
The official Coast Guard gamepass description currently lists a Bell 412 Search and Rescue, an MH-60 Jayhawk with a functioning winch, an S-92 with a functioning winch, and a rescue boat, along with coast guard bases. Check the official pass page and live spawner before buying because availability and pass details can change.
Troubleshoot helicopter handling
Immediate spin or roll
Center the movement control, reduce large inputs, and check whether advanced mode changes the response on your device.
Cannot hold position
Practice at low height with single-axis corrections. Stop correcting forward/back and left/right at the same time until each response is familiar.
Hard vertical landing
Begin reducing descent earlier and keep enough power to arrest the sink before the skids or gear reach the surface.
Winch command missing
Open the live Controls panel and verify that the chosen helicopter variant includes a winch.
Build a repeatable helicopter lesson
Perform five exercises in order: hover over one apron marking, climb and descend vertically, fly a rectangle around the airport, stop into a hover above the original point, and land without sideways movement. Repeat the same pattern before switching models.
Once that is reliable, use the helicopter aircraft list to choose a role, then plan a route using the airport list. The Oil Rig and coast guard locations can make interesting later goals, but an open airport remains the best place to learn.
Evidence note and sources
Control mappings and the documented helicopter roster are community reported, checked September 22, 2026. Gamepass equipment comes from the official Roblox endpoint. Confirm the live Controls panel and spawner before relying on a specific button or variant.
